When Lucy (formely Wendy) was found following a police raid on a property in San Bernardino County she was in a very poor state of health – emaciated, with opens wounds, countless scars and a broken leg – the terrible legacy of being used as a bait dog. Rescued by the Heigl Foundation, her heart-warming recovery has been nothing short of remarkable and she is now enriching the lives of the family who adopted her.
Lucy is doing so well. She loves to go outside, lay in the sun and to chase birds that come into the yard. She loves to climb into bed, make her way under the blankets to the foot of the bed where she will spend a few hours. She normally gets too hot so she will climb out for a drink of water and come right back.
This little lady is so special to us. She loves us to chase her around the yard. She loves water but hates the shower. This girl is an indoor dog and crate free.
I remember when we met Lucy for the first time she did this silly howl thing. Her foster mom explained that she did that when she was happy. If that is true, then she does it several times a day, especially when she knows we are going to bed. The kids and I get the biggest kick out of it still to this day.
It was stressful at the beginning but I’m happy we stuck it out. We would have missed out on so much! She is the love that puts a smile on all of our faces every single day.
